Then & Now: 2024 Cat Rescue - Hurricane Helene

    2024 Kittens Rescue

In September 2024, Rivers Edge rescued two abandoned kittens from the French Broad River during Hurricane Helene with plans to get them to a cat rescue. Due to the shutdowns post-Helene, there was no place for them to go, so they became a part of our family.

    2026 Kitten Rescue Update

Update: May 2026 - happily living with Rivers Edge staff and thriving!

    Blue Jay Rescue

Fledgling Blue Jay left his nest too early and was being stalked by a cat. We thought he may need to be taken to a rehabilitator, but we determined that the baby just needed couple more days in the nest and he would be able to fly on his own. Since Shannon is an excellent climber, he was able to climb up and return this little guy to his nest, where he is now happily settled. #wildliferescue #blueridgenature #northcarolinawildlife #wncmountains

        Opossum Rescue - May 2026

A resident of a local forest in Transylvania county called us to come rescue a possum that they thought had been injured by their two dogs. But after checking him out, we determined that he was just a little beat up and traumatized, so we released him back out into the resident's woods.
